Sophia
Herman,
violinist, and Ludmilla Lifson, pianist, are twin sisters who were born in Leningrad, Russia. Both are graduates of the Leningrad Conservatory, the oldest and most prestigious School of Music in the former Soviet Union. Shortly after their graduation, they were appointed to the faculty of the Conservatory. In Leningrad they formed the Herman-Lifson Duo which was awarded First Prize in the Soviet Chamber Music Competition. As a result of this honor, the Duo toured Russia and performed on radio and television where they gained a reputation as an extraordinarily accomplished ensemble. Ms. Herman had the added distinction of becoming a member of the Leningrad Philharmonic. After moving to the United States, Ms. Herman and Ms. Lifson continued their concert career as the Herman-Lifson Duo. Ms. Herman performs with many music ensembles throughout New England and Ms. Lifson is on the faculty of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ms. Herman performs on a 1747 Januarius Gagliano violin.
Hrant
Tatian, ‘cellist, is a graduate of the world renowned Juilliard School of Music where he was a scholarship student of the great American ‘cellist, Leonard Rose. He appeared as Assistant Principal ‘cellist with the St. Louis Symphony and as Principal ‘cellist of the Rochester, New York, Philharmonic. Mr. Tatian was on the faculty of the State University of New York in Brockport, and has founded and performed in numerous award winning chamber music groups. Mr. Tatian performs on a 1786 Ferdinand Gagliano ‘cello.
The
Solati Trio is one of New England’s preeminent chamber music performance groups. The Trio members, Sophia Herman, violinist, Ludmilla Lifson, pianist, and Hrant Tatian, ‘cellist, were the recipients of the First Prize in the Shoreline Alliance Chamber Music Competition in Guilford, Connecticut. The Solati Trio is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring the highest level of performance of the great works written for piano trio to the concert going public. In the years of their collaboration, the award winning Solati Trio has appeared in highly acclaimed concerts throughout the East Coast of the United States, Europe, and Brazil.
